Hard water is a type of water that contains calcium or magnesium mineral ions, often in the form of carbonate. These ions do not pose a health risk, but they can participate in reactions that leave behind insoluble mineral deposits. To descale and clean a kettle affected by hard water, follow these steps:

1. Fill the kettle with 1 cup of vinegar or lemon juice and 2 cups of water.
2. Bring the mixture to a boil and let it sit for 2 hours.
3. Use a cloth to clean and wipe the inside of the kettle.
4. Rinse the kettle thoroughly with clean water and dry it with a soft, clean cloth.
5. Repeat the process as needed.

It's normal for the stainless steel bottom of the kettle to develop spots or rust after the first use if the water quality in your area is particularly hard. When using a preset with the Keep Warm Mode, if you lift the kettle during the heating process, the CO117-DK will continue the heating if the kettle is returned to the base within 1 minute.
